I’m not necessarily the most avid consumer of manga, but I’ve always been a fan regardless. I love the Japanese art style, as well as the lengths creators will go to explore wild and unexpected concepts. So when I got the opportunity to check out not one, but two different platforms at NYCC 2023 from Shueisha, I eagerly agreed. First up, I got to check out the Manga Plus booth.

The Manga Plus booth itself was outstanding, like a sort of mini-museum amid the chaos of NYCC. Not only did it serve as a pleasant reprieve from the horde of humanity, but it had some amazing artwork on display. Ranging from One Piece to Chainsaw Man, to Spy X Family and Jujutsu Kaisen, there was something for everyone. I was happy to have a guide through the process, who also had a translator so we could communicate more easily.

As far as what Manga Plus by Shueisha is, it’s a subscription platform to read tons of manga. It’s also relatively affordable. Not only is your first month free, but afterward it’s either $1.99 or $4.99 a month. The key difference between those plans is that the more expensive one features completed and serialized titles, whereas the less expensive option only features current manga. That said, either way, you won’t have to worry about the nuisance of ads, which is great.

As for what the current serializing titles are, those include Boruto, My Hero Academia, Dragon Ball Super, and more. If you’re a fan of manga and want an easy-to-access, up-to-date subscription service, Manga Plus might be perfect for you.
