Did you think that Marvel was done with dominating every network and making a billion movies a year? HO HO. This isn’t even their final form. ABC and Netflix are not enough; Marvel has now moved on to Hulu where it will be making a series based on Runaways, the Brian K. Vaughan (SAGA) and Adrian Alphona (Ms. Marvel) comic series of the same name.
Runaways follows a group of teenagers whose parents belong to “The Pride”, a crime organization full of very bad, no good, rotten people. Over time, the teens steal tech and weapons from their evil parents and band together to fight against them. It’s a great comic book series that seems like the perfect fit for the small screen.
“Marvel’s Runaways” is Executive Produced by series Co-Showrunners/writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (“The O.C.”, “Gossip Girl”) along with Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”) “Fake Empire’s” Lis Rowinski will produce as well. “Marvel’s Runaways” is a co-production with ABC Signature Studios.
If you have followed showrunners Schwartz and Savage in their careers, you’ll recognize that this is a huge move for the series and could go a long way in making great television.
On top of Runaways, which doesn’t yet have a release date, the MCU has Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC as well as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders on Netflix.
What do you think? Is this a good move by Marvel? Will you be renewing your Hulu subscription to watch Runaways?
